Bringing British Culture to Life

Who is the course for?

This course is for teachers of English with a good standard of English who wish to extend their own knowledge of English language and culture.

Course aims

This course aims to explore different aspects of modern life and culture with an emphasis on London. It incorporates a varied programme of guided visits supported by talks by visiting speakers and class discussion. You will have ample opportunity to build up a portfolio of authentic materials to support the cultural component of your teaching.

  • Family Life
  • Education, including school visits
  • Youth culture
  • Ethnic diversity
  • Government and politics, including a tour of the Houses of Parliament
  • Law, including a visit to the Old Bailey
  • The arts, including a visit to the National Gallery
Overview
  • Each week will be a self-contained unit, including visits, visiting speakers and materials development and work on mini-projects on selected topics.
  • There will be one main theme per week, with additional sessions on other areas of interest.

Why come to bell London?

Bell London is housed in a magnificent 18th century building in a quiet square in Bloomsbury, near the University of London and in the heart of literary London. It is only a ten-minute walk to Oxford Street, and it is close to the Underground and the mainline stations Euston and King’s Cross. Accommodation is available in an international student residence only a 5-minute walk away or in homestay in residential areas of London.
