Contemporary English
Who is the course for?
This course is for experienced teachers of English, with a good standard of English, working with secondary or adult students.
Course aims
- examine current trends in contemporary use of English, in Britain and internationally
- provide language development and practice as well as ideas for teaching the topics covered
The course is taught through a series of informal lectures, seminars and workshops. Topics can include:
- language change
- trends in lexical change and new words
- teenage language
- slang and idiom
- taboo/political correctness
- varieties of English
- exploiting authentic materials

Why come to bell Cambridge?
The staff are practising teachers and trainers, many of whom have written language teaching material. Bell Cambridge is located in an elegant group of buildings with beautiful gardens in a residential area in the south of the city. The school has tennis courts, a football pitch and facilities for volleyball and aerobics. Participants on our teachers’ courses are accommodated in local homes. Self-catering accommodation in the city centre is also available.
