Cultural Awareness in ELT

Who is the course for?

This course is for experienced teachers of English with a good standard of English, working with secondary or adult students.

Course aims

The course aims to explore aspects of British life and institutions as reflected in the language, media, some contemporary literature and the views of British people and to discuss how we can raise the cultural awareness of our students.

Course programme


The course is taught through a series of informal talks, seminar discussions/workshops, visits and optional projects. We will explore aspects of British life and institutions reflected in the language, media, contemporary literature and the views of British people. We will look at the relationship between cultural awareness and language learning in the classroom context and consider practical teaching ideas using authentic materials. Topics can include

Why come to bell Cambridge?

The staff are practising teachers and trainers, many of whom have written language teaching material. Bell Cambridge is located in an elegant group of buildings with beautiful gardens in a residential area in the south of the city. The school has tennis courts, a football pitch and facilities for volleyball and aerobics. Participants on our teachers’ courses are accommodated in local homes. Self-catering accommodation in the city centre is also available.
