Who is the course for?

This course is for experienced teachers of English with a good standard of English, working with secondary or adult students.

Course aims

A two-week course (15 hours tuition a week) designed to develop your own language skills and give you practical ideas to use with your students

Course programme

The programme is particularly suitable for independent teachers who want to pursue their own interests outside class hours. The free afternoons allow time to attend talks and lectures at bookshops and museums as well as the wide range of productions that make up the annual Cambridge Festival. The practical sessions focus on topics chosen by the group and will help you refresh your teaching skills. Topics include:
  • Spoken and written fluency
  • Listening and reading skills
  • Vocabulary enhancement
  • Pronunciation work

  • The course is held at Peterhouse College in the centre of the city of Cambridge
  • A maximum of 12 teachers in a class
  • Classes in the mornings only
  • Use of the study centre facilities at Bell, Cambridge
  • Each course has a full-time Course Director to advise on professional and social activities in addition to the social programme and excursions offered at Bell, Cambridge
  • Self-catering accommodation in single study bedrooms in comfortable student hostels in the city centre 200 metres from Peterhouse
  • Free membership of the Cambridge University Centre, on the river and just a short walk from Peterhouse, with an excellent self-service cafeteria , bar and café (at student prices) as well as a television lounge, a games room and a reading room with a full supply of newspapers
